p. wallichii
« on: February 17, 2010, 10:46:01 am »
somewhere last year (nov 2009) it stop to develop any fertile fronds & shield fronds.
both fertile fronds & shield fronds are turning brown.

there is no winter season in singapore.
only raining season. & Sometimes it can rain non stop for a few weeks.
so i have to shift it in & hang it at the pillar & cross fingers that it wont get wet when it rain.

.

.

.

.

this is my 3rd wallichii. i was worry as i have killed 2 before.
previous 2 went dormant & i con't watering them. they never recover.

i started watering 3rd wallichii in jan.
it recover ........... 8).

but i have to shift it again, as at the pillar it is getting some direct sun light, the fertile fronds are burnt, i think & never recover.

That's why I hate wallichii.
It has a dormancy period where it needs special care & attention.
Mine died very long time ago.
Wish you luck................ 8)

Matt,
you should remove a green rope out of the bud area. in the photo I see one line crosses over the top of bud. it will kill your plant when it grows larger.

sure, but will it drop off from the fern bark?
i have a friend who has a wallichii, but hers didn't go dormant at all.
is there any reason for that?
if that was affected by growing condition??

If not getting dormancy, it will be deform year by year untill die or may be not die but very small.
in this time my P.wallichii just woke up but no have a new shield frond yet.

in the photo, I use sphagnum moss. I call a moss bag.
for you P. wallichii, you just remove the green rope out of the bud is enough.
