I only started growing ferns and huperzia/lycopodiums not to long ago.
My first love has been orchids but due to limitations of growing orchids
in high rise apartments, I never had much luck growing it in Singapore.
Things improved when I came over to Chiangmai about 7 years ago - less
plants died, more thrived and flowered.

One expensive lesson I learnt was when growing orchids, the environment you
have must first of all be suitable to the plant.  Orchids thrive in its natural
environment.

My interest later progresses to ferns and now bromeliads.  Share with you guys
some of my bromeliads.

But it's ok. It took me some time learning to navigate a Thai forum
But I guess having stayed in chiang Mai for 7 years, you are familiar with
The Thai language than me.

I saw your bromeliads and tillys. Beautiful and wide collection.
I guess the climate up north suits them.
Yes, agreed that trying to create an artificial environment to suit the plants is
Tough....and if you really want to do it, like in Singapore... It's going to take alot of
Effort and $$$. Both of which I do not have. 55555

But recently we visited Woon Leng in Sungei Tengah (I am sure you know them),
And they have installed a huge, fully automated greenhouse system for Orchids.
It's really impressive... Sun-sensors mounted on the roof to automatically draw shade netting, evaporative cooling
During the day and air-conditioners at night... All process controlled.
I will post some pics here.

Btw, if you don't mind me asking.... Are you retiring in chiang Mai now or you have a
Business that requires you to be there? I guess every Singaporean dream is to escape the hectic, fast paced life in Singapore and migrate to a place with more time to pursue one's hobbies and live life better and more relaxed!!!!!!

You can trust me to do the dumbest of things.  He he he!!!!

Glad that you like my collection of broms.  Yes climate here is ideal for growing broms
but there are times when the heat get too intense burning the foliage in the process  and leaving
an ugly botch.  So you learn as you get along.

I am actually ashamed to tell you that despite my 7 years stay here and the fact the I am
married to a Thai national for almost 20 year now, I am still not very conversant in the Thai
language.  Just enough to get by.

Oh yes I remember Mr Teo of Woon Leng - one of the more honest orchid growers around unlike some,
who when I first started growing orchids sold me a cattleya cutting for $60.  This was before the event
of internet forums etc.

Yes I am retired - I retired quite early actually - at 45.  When my previous workplace offered me the
golden handshake, I gladly accepted before they start to make things difficult and find the lamest reason to fire me.
I was terribly burnt out and had enough of office back stabbing etc... Sold my e-apartment for a 3 roomer and so here I am.

I am not in any business of any kind -  never had the bussiness streak in me.  Just watch the grass grow and hear the birds sing
every morning.  I am a easily contended person.   Envious right??

Nice knowing you. 

Sad to say the climate in Chiangmai not as cool as when I first came here.  Even during the cool season around Dec/Jan
it is still hot during the day.  Slightly cooler during the nights and early morning.   But if you are up in the mountains, yes it is much cooler.

Actually you are right. We do envy you... Staying in cool ChiangMai,
Retired young and just enjoying the birds and bees everyday and taking

Your decision process to relocate to Thailand.

The fact the we do not have children to worry their educational needs and all

Good to hear from you again.

It is the start of the southwest monsoon and it has been raining almost every day here, my ferns looking
fresh and leafy for a change.  Even my P. Wallichii which seem to be perpetually in hibernating mode and looking dry
and shivelled up looks to have resurrected after the rain.  The only setback about the rain is that my broms
seemed to have lost some of its colour and my two Shih Tzus don't get to go out to play!!!!.

Saw a pretty P Madagascar at the plant market here but was a little bit pricey.    Will look for one in pup form which
should be a little bit more affordable.

Hi Bobby. Yes I heard that it's rainy season now... Not only up north in Chiang Mai but

Yes, I have always like P. Madagscarensis as it is more
Challenging, so now I am trying to collector any hybrids of P. Mada.
Like the Horne Surprise that grow very well in my place.
From just a single specimen from K. Wanna.... Now I have
6 pups that are growing well. I will post some photos soon....

You should post the pics of your Shitzu!!!!! Must be cute!
I have 2 minature schnauzers.... But both are old dogs already

Nope - no need for me to go to the polls.  I am here merely as a "long term guest of my wife" - renewable
annually provided you could show to the Immigration people that you have got sufficient funds in your bank account.
Not prepared to trade my pink I/C for a "tomyam" one at the moment.  Too much of a hassle when it comes to travelling.
Had a not too pleasant experience many years back when travelling to Western Europe (before intergration),
the cost and time incurred in obtaining visas for Thai citizens to enter those countries was almost the cost of the airfare.
